I love reading every day but nothing like a challenge for a little more motivation to read more.
Every great thinker of our age that I have read about is an avid reader. Warren Buffet encourages every one to read 200 pages a day. Naval Ravikant has said just by reading for 1-2 hours a day can put you in the top percentile in the world.

I have been trying to read one book a week at the very least but stuff happens and I digress. I started this challenge in 2020. I got to a great start but my momentum fizzled a few weeks into the challenge as I was doing it by myself.
So, I thought of challenging myself publicly this time to introduce some accountability. I have resolved to read a non-fiction book a week for the next 52 weeks and write my thoughts about the book of the week on this blog and on my social media pages.

What I am hoping to get out of this:
- Replace my bad habits with reading – I have realized I spend a lot of time watching TV, YouTube videos, scrolling social media feed. I have been trying to break the scrolling habit for a long time and have tried a lot of things but nothing has been effective so far. So, I am trying to replace the habit with something I love to do – reading.
- Make a dent in my ‘To Be Read’ list – I keep a list of books recommended by authors or thinkers I follow and over the years, this list has swelled to hundreds of books. I am hoping this challenge will make a dent in that list. Although, I have found this to be counterintuitive. For every good book I read from this list, there are several more recommendations that come up on the subject, which is also what I am after. Win-win!
- To expand my thinking – I am aiming to pick books on obscure subjects, the ones I don’t normally pick to expand my repertoire of ideas.
- To become a better version of myself – Non-fiction is great for rewiring your brain and upgrading your thoughts.
- To become a better reader – I am aiming to read more deeply and critically. I am aiming to take copious notes and then write about those thoughts to clear my head and becoming a better reader in the process.
